                What is the difference of the UHMWPE and HDPE floating pipe?

                Most people is familar with the HDPE pipe, because it has long history than UHMWPE. So when they heared about UHMWPE for the first time, they will ask what is UHMWPE? And what is the diference between UHMWPE and HDPE? I want HDPE, why do you introduce us UHMWPE ?

                So today I will introduce you the differences and why I suggest you choose UHMWPE pipe as floating pipes for your dredging project. 

                First, About the raw material: 

                UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) has extremely long chains, with molecular weight numbering in the millions (usually between 2 to 6 million, the pipeline  raw material we quoted you is 3.5million). In general, HDPE molecules have between 700 and 1,800 monomer units per molecule, whereas UHMWPE molecules tend to have 100,000 to 250,000 monomers each. The chains of UHMW align in the same direction. The bonds between the chains are not very strong however, because they are so long there are more bonds holding it together then polyethylene with shorter chains. These long chains give UHMW high tensile strength. The longer chains serve to transfer load more effectively to the polymer backbone by strengthening intermolecular interactions. This causes the material to be very tough and gives it the highest impact strength of the polyethylenes. It has a density of 0.928-0.941 g/cm3.

                The higher molecular weight of the raw PE material, the better wear resistant ability, that' the reason why UHMWPE floating pipes is 3~4 times wear resistant than HDPE floating pipe, for detail test report, please feel free to contact cocoyuan@buoyandpipe.com

                Third Comparison on the connection of the UHMWPE pipe and HDPE pipe:

                Both the two kinds pipeline is connected by steel flange, but the HDPE pipe steel flange is installed by a stub end, the stub end should be welded on the HDPE pipes as the following photos:

                Note: the two parts are combined by welding machine, and tensile strength reduced seriously, that's why the HDPE floating pipe 's connection parts broked easily during working on the sea. 

                How UHMWPE floating pipe solve on this defect?

                UHMWPE pipe steel flange is installed by turning up the edge of the pipeline with a machine, after turning up, it is still a whole unit, and more suitable for water working conditions, as the following photos:

                From above photos we can see that the pipeline is a whole unit, it has high ability on bearing the outside forces. Also there is a up sealing face on the connection face, it will help make the pipeline non leakage, and save you cost on rubber sealer.
